Introduction and the topic of Affordance
Hi everyone. Whoever is reading this blog for an apparent reason other than for my Apparel 190 online course. This is K. For the semester I am doing this blog as to relate the subjects of each topic I have learn each week and will be posting a blog about each of the topics and how it relates to my everyday life and the way the world is designed around the concepts of design. Any way here goes nothing.
Affordance
One of the first things that I have learned is the concept of affordance. Which has nothing to do with being able or not to afford something. It actually has something to do with function and purpose. Take this picture for example. While a handle indicates that the door is meant to be pulled, the sign says push. Which clearly contradicts each other's functions as a door in the first place. It makes me think of what would happen if a stop sign looked like a slow sign with it being orange instead of red. It's kinda works like social cues. We rely on them more than the object right in front of us
